Phytoremediation, a technology using plants to remove contaminants from soils or water, has been intensively studing during the past decade due to its costưeffectiveness and environmental harmonies.
Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides L.) Is a piece of grass with excellent characteristics in erosion control. It is also well-known as a highly heavy metal resistant plant. Therefore, our objective is to investigate growth and As accumulation of vetiver grass grown in the contaminated soil in mining area. The result showed that after 5 months of the experiment, grass could grow in the soil contained 7,57 - 1137,17 ppm As, respectively. The As accumulation by roots of vetiver was higher than that by leaves. The vetiver could accumulate As from 35,57 up to 52,37% from contaminated soil. The results reveal feasibility of using vetiver grass to treat As contaminated sites.
